“After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world.” – Philip Pullman
As one year ends and another begins, we often make time to catch up with family and loved ones we haven’t seen in awhile. Whether we realise it or not, it is natural to spend a lot of this catch up time story telling.
We tell stories of the year that has been. And for many (all of us?), 2016 has been a difficult year sprinkled with a few unexpected curve balls.
You can almost hear the collective consciousness saying…’thank goodness it’s coming to an end’.
Without going into it too deeply, from a numerology perspective 2016 was a 9 year…which is literally about completion. It is the end of a 9 year cycle where we are guided (forced?) to tie up loose ends and to complete things that are no longer serving us. Sometimes this involves dealing with any karmic debts we may have acquired during the last 9 years.
We often experience things like the end of relationships, careers or the culmination of projects we have been working on.
As 2016 went on, some felt the squeeze more than others.
A spiritual teacher of mine used to often say ‘good endings, make good beginnings’.
So, the beauty of 2016 drawing to an end, is that in 2017 we enter into a 1 year.
The 1 year marks the start of a new 9 year cycle in your life. All the hard work from the previous years was not in vein – it has cleared the way for this brand new start. It is a time of fresh beginnings, new initiatives, creativity, learning and growth.
With an understanding of these larger cycles at play, we can tell our stories in a much more empowered way.
Rather than just recounting the difficult times, we can focus on how grateful we are for having got through, AND the freedom we have created from things that were holding us back.
We can tell stories about who we want to be in 2017 and beyond…knowing that we are planting seeds and intentions for the 9 years ahead.
Over this holiday season, may peace fill the home in your heart and may the stories you tell be of grand adventures and happy endings…
