All you need to know about dealing with clutter can be summarised in one little statement – ‘Love it, use it or LOSE IT’.
However, it is generally far from that simple. Most often, it is not the physical items we are attached to, as much as the reason or concept behind which we collected and retained them in the first place.
Clutter clearing does not have to be an arduous, ruthless task. If approached mindfully, it can actually be an uplifting and transformational experience.
More and more people around the world are enjoying the benefits of living more, with less. But with so much ‘stuff’ to deal with, how does one even get started on this journey?
A great place to start, particularly if you are overwhelmed by actually letting go of things, is to simply ask yourself some questions like:
Why is this item here?
What purpose is it serving?
Who would I be without it?
Would someone else get more value from it than me?
Be gentle with yourself as the answers may surprise you. Most likely you will discover insights into subconscious beliefs you hold about yourself and the world.
Clutter in the home often mirrors areas within one’s self that are stagnant and stuck. By observing these areas with kindness rather than judgement, you begin to empower your heart.
You also begin to disarm the main source of clutter in the first place – the mind and it’s incessant bickering that you and/or your home are not enough, are not perfect and lovely…just the way you are!
If you want my top clutter clearing advice, it is to LOSE that voice in your head xo
