[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Hands up if you or someone in your home has been struck down with the flu lately? It seems like everyone I know has had a brush with it and now I have too. Not only is it a nasty one…this thing is a stay-er! I know many people who have had traces of this unwelcome visitor linger for weeks.
So, what to do? In particular, what can be done in the home at times like these?
Well, my definite go to is therapeutic grade essential oils.
From ancient writing and traditions it could actually be argued that essential oils were man’s first medicine
Essential oils are the aromatic, volatile liquid (usually extracted with steam distillation) from within various shrubs, bushes, flowers, trees, roots and seeds. They are highly concentrated and far more potent than dried herbs. Their chemistry is complex and can consist of hundreds of different compounds.
Unfortunately, a large percentage of essential oils marketed these days are ‘adulterated’ with the use of synthetic-made compounds. Even the distillation processes used by different companies have a dramatic effect on the chemistry and medicinal action. Which means there are basically lots of different grades of oils out there.
So it is VERY important and worthwhile doing some research before investing in any. I was fortunate to be introduced to Young Living Essential Oils over 15 years ago and have stuck with this company ever since.
When I’m sick, I turn to a particular blend that contains clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus and rosemary.
The blend (called Thieves) is highly antiviral, antiseptic, antibacterial and anti-infectious and was created based on the legend of a group of 15th century thieves who avoided contracting the plague while robbing the bodies of the dead and dying. When the thieves were eventually apprehended authorities negotiated a reduced sentence, in return for the secret as to how they were protecting themselves – which turned out to be a specific blend of herbs, spices and oils.
So, diffusing the ‘Thieves’ blend for 15mins every 3-4 hours is a great way to give your home a boost if anyone has been unwell and it can also be applied on the sole of your feet for an internal boost.
This is just one example of how essential oils can help create an environment of wellbeing in your home, the fact that they smell great is actually a bonus![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
